Jerusalem Western Wall
The Jerusalem Western Wall, sometimes also called the Jerusalem Wailing Wall, is a holy site for Jews, Muslims, and Christians. It is located in the ancient Old City of Jerusalem. About half the wall dates from around 19 BC, when it was built by Herod the Great. Other layers were added later - during and after the seventh century. Though specific prayer practices have varied many times over the centuries, there is no doubt that Jews, Christians, and Muslims all revere the place as a holy site and treat the wall with the great reverence appropriate to such an important holy site.
Within the walled Old City of Jerusalem lies the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, considered by Christians to be the site where Jesus was crucified and buried. Prayer2Jesus.com website offers a service that allows personal prayers to be read aloud in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre with the person issuing the prayer to be granted absolution. Since as early as the 4th century, the Jerusalem Western Wall (Jerusalem Wailing Wall) has been considered a place of pilgrimage by Christians and Jews (Islam was founded in 7th century) for its great historical significance in all those religions that descended from Abraham. The official Western Wall or Wailing Wall refers to 57 meters of exposed section of the ancient wall on the western side of the Temple Mount. It abuts a large plaza and is set aside for praying.
